Safety and reliability are the major factors influencing the design and fitting of our equipment, so giving years of trouble free service to our customers.
It was in the late 1950's that Peter Briggs, Owen’s father first adapted a car to meet the needs of a disabled driver. His wife, who had contracted polio, had bought a new Mini. Peter, a chartered engineer who worked on servo systems for radar guidance during the war, used this experience to design and fit servo assisted hand controls with hydraulic links to the pedals of her car. Years later, after he had started trading as Brig-Ayd Controls, these servo systems formed the basis of many early adaptations and provided years of trouble free motoring for many disabled drivers.
Peter was joined by his son Owen in 1983 and in due course by his other son Brian. With their combined engineering expertise the business expanded and is now run by Owen and his wife Denise. The business, with its large fulltime staff is now directly involved in the conversion of over 5000 vehicles a year for disabled drivers and passengers and manufactures over 2500 wheelchair hoists and lifting aids per year.
